Strategy & Policy Officer | Sheffield South Yorkshire | Salary £20-29K

CLOSING DATE: Friday 26th March 2010


Provide major stakeholders with the strategic direction,engagement and policy advice relating to transport planning within South Yorkshire and work closely with Partners in other relevant sectors such as health, employment, environment and education sectors to ensure that common goals are achieved and reflected in Business plan objectives.

Responsibilities/Key Accountabilities:

1. Assist strategy development processes for the Local Transport Plan 3 (LTP3) and the Sheffield City region in line with the long term strategic vision for South Yorkshire, in particular in relation to stakeholder engagement and consultation.
2. Support the development of  transport and related strategies ensuring these are aligned in terms of strategic vision and fit for South Yorkshire and
the overall approach and objectives
3. Produce documentation for making the case for policies and investments to present to funding or decision making partners in order to maximise funding available .
4. Support the timely production of annual Business Plan and assist in ensuring this and other associated strategies reflect intelligence provided by the Transport and Data Manager and the priorities of our partners where applicable to ensure that these support the strategic vision for South Yorkshire.
5. Co-ordinate and direct as necessary in conjunction with the Strategy and Policy Manager and the Head of Integrated Planning & Delivery strategic
engagement and consultation responses from across the organisation ensuring that there is consistency in terms of policy and strategy issues
6. Assist in ensuring that transport is effectively linked to wider initiatives such as Health, Housing, Climate change/adaptation, environmental policy,
education, economic impacts, productivity and social cohesion and provide recommendations
7. Act as Key liaison point for the Strategy Department for the Integrated Planning Process and subsequent Departmental Business Plan development to ensure full and timely compliance with the process.
8. Assist and support liaisons and strategic partnership working with the Local Strategic Partnerships ensuring that transport is represented in a professional manner and that partners understand the benefits of joining up policies and resources.
9. Lead on organisational and other projects as directed by the Strategy and Policy Manager or Strategy Department Management Team.
10.Work closely with the Environment and Climate Change Manager to ensure alignment with partners objectives on Climate change and adaptation.
11.Any other duties commensurate with the post as directed by the Strategy and Policy manager.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience Required:

•?4 GSCE’s (A to C) including English & Maths or equivalent – Essential
•?Recognised qualification or equivalent in an appropriate subject preferably at
degree level – Essential
•?Good knowledge of transport policy and planning – Essential
