Compliance Manager | Central London | £45-50K
Our client who is a leading professional services firm is urgently seeking a Compliance Manager to work within the FSA compliance consultancy team, assisting with client monitoring for a range of clients and with ad hoc questions as they arise. You will have peviously worked as as a compliance manager.
Core responsibilities:
• Knowledge and understanding of all ongoing client assignments within the department in order to deal professionally with all enquiries
• Research and keep up-to-date with changes with FSA rules and guidance and ensure this is communicated effectively to all relevant parties, by way of briefings, emails and factsheets
• Ensure compliance manuals are kept up-to-date; monitor programmes for necessary changes and report on any findings
• Produce written reports on remedial actions resulting from the monitoring programme and contribute to follow-up meetings with operational line managers
• Review the work of the more junior compliance consultants in the team in relation to the preparation of FSA application packs, variation of permission notices and update of firms ICAAPs
• Assist with work required under FSA Risk Mitigation Programmes, AAF 01/06 and s166 reviews
• Review reports prepared following on site, ongoing monitoring visits and deal with issues raised by the client thereon
• Assist clients with mock ARROW visits, including interviewing senior staff / board members
• Assist other members of the team with ad hoc queries on the FSA Handbook when required
• Assist more senior team members with people management; ensure all staff within the team complete work within allocated timescales and to the standard required. If problems occur, seek ways to resolve matters quickly and efficiently
• Assist with setting targets and objectives for team members, as well as on the job training and coaching
• Contribute and implement ideas for staff motivation and development
• Contribute to the strategic growth of the compliance consultancy department; attend prospective client meetings and actively suggesting ideas and concepts for marketing opportunities with existing and potential clients
• Prepare and present internal and external courses to keep up to date with regulatory issues, including money laundering

• Be aware of and comply with the firm’s policies at all times
• Record time accurately using the Practice Management System
• Any other duties appropriate to the grade and level of responsibility of this post, for which the post holder has the necessary experience and/or training
• Be aware of the firm’s risk management and practice assurance procedures and ensure compliance
• Ensure continuing professional development is up to date at all times
Attributes, Requirements, skills
• At least 3-5 years’ experience gained within a similar compliance role, within the financial services / consultancy environment
• Professionally qualified in compliance e.g.: FPC / SII or commensurate professional experience
• Educated at least to A Level standard
• Good understanding and working knowledge of the FSA Handbook and how it is applied practically. In particular: Understanding of COBS, SYSC and knowledge of BIPRU and or IPRU(INV)
• Able to produce both formal reports to the Board, as well as fact-sheets which interpret FSA rules into simple English
• Proven people management skills
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Willing to travel to clients (mostly within London) with confidence and initiative to work unaided
• Able to question clients procedures and think of practical ways to resolve weaknesses
• Excellent analytical skills
• Able to use initiative, work unsupervised and comfortable taking responsibility
• Able to build a rapport with clients and staff
• Able to meet strict regulatory deadlines
• Competent using MS Office Word and Excel
• Be a self starter, able to think outside the box and research an issue
• Results orientated with a focus on business development
